AKA: the no-longer-so-sticky notes
This is a free application that is based on project management and is a Neomobile favorite! It was made by Fog Creek Software in 2011, and is now a successful company. Trello is organized with virtual cards and columns. These Cards can be dragged and dropped in different columns as they progress from one list to the next. Users can be assigned to cards, and each board can be grouped into organizations. Each project board can be marked with one of six colors offered by Trello. You can also choose titles for your cards, boards or lists and share them with multiple users. Also, everybody can add comments, attachments, vote, assign due dates, and add checklists to cards or tasks.
This app is based on the Kanban scheduling system. Kanban stands for billboard or signboard in Japanese, and it’s essentially a way to visualize your work flow. When being used for software development, a Kanban board usually consists of several columns for different phases of a task — to-do, in progress and done. One big advantage of the Kanban system is that it’s easy to see what everyone is working on.
Trello is a version of the Kanban system and tries to retain some of the properties of physical objects. Cards that have not been touched for a while will start yellowing over time, like paper. Trello is a great app that can be used in many different ways. One can organize cards and lists however you like. It can be used to manage shopping lists, study lists etc. Keep it simple or complex. The choice is yours.
The basic version of Trello is free, and it essentially acts as advertising for Trello’s premium versions.
